During the summer in Bishkek, pedestrians can purchase a cup to go from streetside Shoro vendors (I don’t know if the vendors always offer all varieties of Shoro drinks—I’ve mainly seen Maksym (Максым), Chalap (Чалап) and Kvass (Квас) for sale). When I first arrived, I was so thirsty that I bought a cup of Maksym, which I’ve heard is the most popular Shoro drink.

At first glance, I thought maybe it might be a coffee drink 😅 It’s not. It’s grainy and a little sour…I’m not sure how else to explain it. I would be okay if I never drank it again, but I still want to try the others!
